you raise a really good point that I didn't even think of !

I can imagine situations that could get really complicated where bike rider ends up in the hospital with a huge bill and the car has thousands of $ in damage ...

Light a cake candle and place the reflector where it should go. Retract it and heat the spike with the candle for 60 seconds. Remember that the hottest spot of the flame is few millimetres above the flame. Remove the candle, push reflector into its place, it is secure. Do not burn your fingers.
