Adjusting tension of 600 shifter
I don't know very much about the Shimano 600 tension shifter, with my setup I have no problem with the front derailleur shifting, however with the rear derailleur I am able to shift with no problem but when I release the shift lever the rear derailleur returns to the small rear sprocket. I believe it's a tension issue but I haven't been able to find any helps that would point me in the right direction. Thanks

Are these downtube shifters?
If so tighten up the bolt which is in the center
of the shifter on the side facing out.
Can be flathead screwdriver or a d ring.

blamester mentions the most common reason for the shift lever not holding it's place. Sometimes there's a missing "washer" or other part in the lever's assembly. Sometimes a part (like a plastic "washer" which has a hole through it with two flats "sides") that has had the flats wear out. Sometimes there's a tabbed washer that isn't engaged and will rotate with the lever instead of remaining stationary.
Are the two sides the same? (As in no indexing on the RH side). If so then a careful disassembly, noting each part's orientation and order WRT the rest, of the LH side will act as a guide for what the RH wants to be. Andy
