I don't have them back yet from the machinist but he sent me some photos of the finished work. Looks good to me.

Ok, I got the pieces back and while I am still waiting for the 12mm to QR adapter to come, a test fit makes this look like a success!
Here is the cassette side where I needed a measurement of 1mm. It's 1mm right on the nose: https://s3.amazonaws.com/jwhance/bik...sette_side.jpg On the brake rotor side, I needed 15mm and it's exactly that now: https://s3.amazonaws.com/jwhance/bik...rotor_side.jpg I did a test fit in the bike but had to eyeball the position in the dropouts but looks right and the gears shift as expected: https://s3.amazonaws.com/jwhance/bik..._installed.jpg I don't have any brake rotors for this wheelset yet either so I swapped one from the original wheel and that lines up just right also. The machinist did a really nice job. I figured the axle would be easy but the two end caps looked to be tricky to me. I can't even tell which side he machined down. They look great! Of course the real test is to ride it. Hopefully next week when the axle adapter gets here. |
"Not convertible"
Ha! wrong again Oval! |
Well, so much for "not convertible". I'm calling this a success! The 12mm to QR adapter came yesterday. I got this one from Velofuze which I like because it has the o-rings which keep it in there firmly:
