I seem to recall seeing some 1-1/8" quill stems out there. You might have to do some searching and your choices might be limited. However, you have another option. There does exist a 1-1/8" quill to 1-1/8" threadless adapter which allows you to fit any 1-1/8" stem.

You can but there is little point. The systems will be less secure, heavier and you will still need a threaded headset.
You may want to look for a quill stem with a front-loaded clamp; that would be useful for fitting bars, esp modern ones with funny shapes.
If you find one, let us know.
One company that is always good for stems/bars is 3TTT.

I duno where you get that.I have several quill adapters and no security issues. Weight is relative. There are plenty of boat anchor quill types. The Cinelli adapater teamed up with a lighter ahead stem isn't a bad prescription.

Profile makes a 1" quill stem with a 26mm clamp diameter and two bolt front loading clamp. I think its called ther H2O series.
