Chain too short - 42t Chainring / 11-42 Cassette

Hi - I've been having drivetrain problems, so my friend measured my chain and found that it had stretched a good deal. I already had a new 10-speed chain (SRAM PC 1031), so went to put it on last night, and it appears to be too short for my 1x10 setup with 42-tooth chainring and 11-42 cassette. It's a size L Fairdale Weekender Drop (2015), FYI.

Do chains come in different lengths? Am I using incompatible gear with the 42/42 setup?

Thanks!
John

After market packaged chains have been supplied with 114 to 116 links for a few decades. It takes a while for the non OEM market to catch up to what the bike brands are doing. So just like with recumbents and tandems some bikes will need a bit more chain (from a second entire chain if you're not a shop with a spare links box under your work bench) then the common sold length. If you bought the cassette and chain from a shop and if they didn't mention this then shame on them for missing the chance to sell a second chain, or offer some extra links and sell another connecting link or two. do what recumbent bike owners must always do,* buy more than 1 chain, and some extra quick links ,
and add a section , if you buy the same chain the next time , then you can use another portion
of your saved, still new, un worn, chain, to extend the next one...

* Other than manufacturers of recumbents and specialty shops selling and repairing them ,
that get chain in 100 foot bulk rolls.. sell by the foot, how long do you need?

Thanks. I'll just get another chain and add to it, seems like the simplest solution.
