Stupid Bottom Bracket question.
So my Raleigh has 71mm Bottom Bracket.
Do I get the 68mm cartridge or the 73mm cartridge?
If it is the 73mm then space it to fit?
Thanks

Phil Wood does not care about the width as the mounting rings are internal//
and available even if your Raleigh is old enough to need a non ISO /British standard threaded BB..
but they're not cheap ..

IIRC the 71mm shells all used 26TPI threading, not the 24TPI of current ISO BBs. But one measurement is worth 1000 assumptions. Last time I looked for it Phil still offered 26TPI Raleigh threaded retaining rings.
If you do have the 24TPI shell great as this opens your BB choices massively to pretty much any threaded BB made today. As to the shell's width- For a shop repair keeping the shell unchanged and using a 73mm shelled BB with a thin spacer under the fixed/driveside cup's flange also keeps the cost down. For my bike I would face down the shell to 68mm, because I can and have the tool. Andy
