chain rub on frame

I upgraded my 8 speed to a 9 speed a few weeks ago.( new cassette, brifter and cable
) and the other day I shifted in to my 53 - 12 and it made a odd noise. I thought it was the deraller pully hitting the small cog, so i adjusted the screw on the back. Nothing, so I checked the limit screws again nothing. than I noticed the paint was missing from the weld on the chain stay. I shifted in to my small ring small cog no rub( chain line) but in my big ring rub city. any sugestions. PS the frame is aluminum.

could I some how spacer it?

thanks
Chris

Bikes: See sig.

Strange. Maybe your chain is too short? Can you post pics? Is it rubbing on the top, or on the bottom?

Sorry about the lack of clarity. it is rubbing on the weld that connects the drop out and the seat stay. I wish I could post a pic but I do not have a digi cam Is a 9 speed cassette a few milimeters wider than a 8 speed. I cave not crashed or droped it. The only other thing I have had done is a true and retention of the rear wheel. For now I just wont use the big ring small cog combo, not that I use it that much any way, just down hill.

Try a 1mm spacer on the drive end of the axle
