For god sake please help me
I need help! i have a Columbia Tourist 3. it has a 3 speed gear and its rear tire has been blown out! how do i remove it? i try to remove the back nuts so i can slide the tire out but they wont budge! it is a 3 speed bike with internal gears in the rear tire! thank you!
im particularly having trouble with the gear changer, do i need to disconnect it to remove the tire? if i dont need to then i wont mess with it but if i have to then please help i am unfamiliar with this strange mechanism. ive tried twisting but it doesnt seem to do anything and im afraid to break it. i need to post 10 times before i upload pictures so i will do so later.

One aspect that is foreign to many is that the axle of an IGH will counter rotate when in 1st or 3rd gears (for common 3 speeds at least). so the axle needs to be kept from this rotation. Various methods are used to achieve this including tabbed washers that engage the drop out slot or axles that have a pair of flats that slide into the do slot (or both). If the tab or if the slot get deformed the axle's rotation can jam the axle in place.
If the hub is a Shimano one then prying the drop out away from the axle's lock nut usually frees up this jammed situation. If the hub is a Sturmey archer then a wrench can be placed on the axle flats and rotate the axle till the full axle diameter is freed from the slot.
Either way disconnecting the gear cable from the axle is the best way to minimize further damage. This is relatively easy for one to do. The next step is to reinstall properly so that future use won't repeat this axle rotation from the counter rotation forces. How best to do this depends on what has been damaged already. If you have a LBS that has experienced wrenches they have likely seen this before. If not you'll spend more time searching for a vid on a repair that isn't seen too much these days.
This is one more problem that takes more time to explain then for an experienced wrench to fix. Andy

While this is generally a friendly place, it is considered good form to use a more informative headline than ”I need help”. As it is people are forced to read it all maybe only to discover that they didn’t have anything to add.
Regarding your issue, try identifying the HUB as opposed to the bicycle. Then do a net, or youtube search on ”remove XX 3-speed wheel”.

We who work in bike shops are ready to cope with many issues , presented in person, in the shop.
