Uniglide/Hyperglide
Will this old hub work with a new 9-speed cassette? I didn't know there is inter-operability between uniglide and hyperglide. The seller says it will work.

Didn't uniglide not have the narrow wide alignment spline pair on the driver,
that hyperglide introduced?
They used the high gear cog to hold the rest on ,
rather than a lock ring of current freehubs..
as I recall, ... it's been a while..
Note; another thread on the topic..

Probably, I had a 6402 rear hub that had threading for both uniglide and hyperglide (external/internal threaded).
Not sure about fitting an 11 cog but a 12 will work.

Thanks folks.
I'm oddly unsentimental about skewers.

I don't think you're weird for that. It seems normal for bikeforums. For various weird reasons, I've rotated my skewers throughout my bike collection. I suspect most of the skewers don't match the hubs they're in.
Anyway, this new (old) hub will be going on a racing bike I'm converting to 650B. 650B rims are hard to come by at a good price, and someone gave me a pair of complete wheels and they're 36h. But the rear hub is thread-on freewheel type. 36h hubs have become hard to come by. I'll rebuild the rear wheel with this hub.

I'd be very surprised if the Uniglide/Hyperglide freehub was wide enough for 8/9/10.
It could be with Dura Ace, but I'd expect that the transition would have occurred in the 6/7 speed era.
However, the hub would likely support a newer 8/9/10 freehub.

Seems the 7 speed K cassette has a good ratio collection ..
13 15 17 20 24 30 34 as I recall , who needs more ..
other than Nigel Tufnel ?

That hub will definitely work with 8-9-10 speed cassettes. I'm running several of them on various bikes with 8 (Cinelli),9 (Pelizzoli) and 10 (Voyageur 650B) speed cassettes.

Sheldon Brown on the Uniglide/Hyperglide differences and compatibilities. Sheldon wrote: "...hubs marked "8-speed", "9-speed" or "10-speed" will work with any number of sprockets up to 10!".
As of this writing I'm taking a short coffee break from converting my Univega from 7-speed to 8-speed Hyperglide. Different wheelset, came with the 8-speed. I used it for a month or so with my old 7-speed cassette and spacers. But that cassette was wearing out, getting noisy and shifting sloppily, so I ordered a cheap replacement 8-speed cassette from Nashbar, which just arrived Friday afternoon.
Turns out the Nashbar "brand" cassette is a discontinued new/old stock Microshift 8-speed. Fits perfectly on the wheel's 8-speed Hyperglide freehub. Now I just need to redo the rear derailleur to see if it and the cheap SunRace friction thumb shifters will cover the full range. Looks like there's enough adjustment.
Just waiting for a huge front to pass and the rain to let up so I can take a test ride. Bike shifts okay on the stand inside. Non-stop steady rain all week, unusual for Texas. If all goes well this bike will be rain ready soon. I'm putting on narrower tires to clear the original fenders, 700x32 Continental Sport Contact II to replace the excellent 700x42 Conti SpeedRides I rode for two years.
