I'm thinking about adding a ring to my Campy equipped Trek 2200. !994 8 speed Veloce with a double chain ring and an extra click in the front shifter. Makes me think it could be a 2 or 3 ring shifter? The question is what triple will fit this bike? I see there is a Veloce 9 speed triple or maybe one of the Racing T crank sets with an even lower small ring. Do either of these fit without changing the bottom bracket? As I get older even the hills in Iowa seem to be getting taller. Is this something that could be a direct swap out, or am I looking at a whole new drive train?

The 'Race triple' right arm is forged to use the same BB (111 for standard 115 for oversize seat tubes)

this is older parts , so good luck searching for them .. eBay, etc..

You have a good bike for this upgrade (unlike most who follow trends I consider more and lower gearing an improvement). The Campy Ergo will handle a triple range easily. You should assume that whatever crank you end up with will need a different BB. If the same crank was used as a triple, compared to it's double config, the usual added driveside BB axle length is about 3 to 5mm. Aprox because as you look at ring/stay clearance the closer to the BB shell you get the more the stay angles in to the frame's centerline, so a complete added ring dimension isn't often completely needed (for the BB axle).

Don't forget about the ders too. Depending on how small a granny ring you pick and how good you are in avoiding some cog/ring combos the OEM double front der might do well. But if the inner is real small or you like to cross chain I would suggest a ft der for a triple. So to with the rear der but now the issue id chain wrap and having a chain long enough to still handle the big/big with minimal droop in the small/small.

I believe Phil Wood still makes BB for what length you will need.

I had a 10-speed Campy Chorus triple on my 2006 Litespeed for many thousands of miles and it worked very well. It had 135/74 bolt circles and came with 53/42/30 chainrings. I substituted a 26T granny chainring and it still shifted fine. Campy sold a specific square taper Chorus cartridge bottom bracket for this crank and it used a 111 mm eccentric spindle IIRC. Obviously these are now available only NOS or used.

Thank you all! I will be keeping my eyes open for something to get me down around 28 or 30 on the small end. right now I'm at 39/53, so a 30/40/50 maybe. I wish I had found this forum a long time ago. A wealth of knowledge and courteous people in the same place! Hard to believe now days.
