To paint or not to paint? That is the question.

Just inherited a 520. It's 21cm so it's too small for me..darn. It is covered with scratches. Apparently it's been across the US and around Europe. The frame is just too marked up to just leave it. My first thought was just tune and lube the bearings and change the saddle. The tires and tape are good. Then I thought a repaint would really be nice but decals are $40 or more and I didn't want to out that kind of time or money into it. I decided to do get down to the frame and do a thorough touch up. Home Depot matched the color from the fork and I already have primer, 2000 grade sandpaper and a little time on my hands. I didn't know HD could do a match from a fork but it is really, really close. I've seen attempts at touch ups and seen threads about nail polish and testor model paint matches but the damage was to extensive for that so I thought I'd pass along the Home Depot info.

Pull off the bottom bracket & get the cups out of the head tube. Take it to the nearest powdercoater. Forget about expensive decals. It will be so pretty after it's powdercoated you won't need them.

I'd really want the decals. I know, it's only a flip, but if I went with a repaint, I'd need to get the decals. I'm going with taping off the decals and doing an extensive touch up, some new hardware here and there, an old Brooks and reattaching the racks front and rear. The tires and tape are good. It cost $110 for the bike and apparently the labor is free.😁
