This nut is nuts
 

How do I even get this off? I would hope there's a special tool for it, or you're screwed if you get a flat, but with the way the holes are it looks like it only goes on, not off.

I've tried grabbing it with lock jaw pliers, but couldn't get a good grip.

Those are Pinhead anti-theft nuts, you need the tool that goes with them.

Nope, junk bike someone gave away. Already deleted the messages, though, so I dunno who it was. I was gonna salvage the wheels for another bike, but I gotta figure out how to get this off, first.






Dang, I was figured it was something like that. Any way to get it off without the tool?

You could file flats into it and remove with a wrench.

well, that was easy. the other side was a regular nut, which i had already removed, so i just used a regular wrench on the inner nut by the cones, which rotated the whole axle, loosening the nut enough that i could just unscrew it the rest of the way by hand.

Wow, I'm just having all the luck tonight. This the bike im putting the wheels on. The chain was put on crossed... smh.

Unless somehow that kink would straighten out to flipping the chain around.

The person from whom this bike was stolen didn't want to make anything easy for the thief! :lol:

oh, actually, looking at it again this morning, with the wheel out i WOULD have been able to straighten that kink out to get the chain proper. the rear derailleur is flipped down, so what looks like the bottom cog in the pic is actually the top cog. oh, well, already broke it and straightened it out.

Replace the derailleur cable, would you? I needed a tetanus booster just looking at it.
