79 Raleigh Competition GS - these front cones work

Well, they sort of work.
They are smaller in diameter and longer.
Also the thread cut is super tight on my axle.

I could not find this info anywhere, so posting it for future reference.

Wheels Manufacturing CN-R084 Front Axle Cone, 15 x 12.8-mm
Cost $5.45 each shipped.

After assembling, with no washers/spacers at all, IE just the cones and lock nuts the width is 100.7mm +- which is close enough for me.

The hubs are Campagnolo Gran Sport small-flange hubs.

If you had a micro lathe then you could shave the face a tad and set it however you want.

Do you have a hub brand and model to match your suggestion of replacement cones for the bike? BTW for many cones that are case or through hardened you'll want a toolpost grinder on that lathe. Andy

Having worked in a LBS that sold Raleigh back then I can say that some came with component subs and also the selling shop often enough replaced the wheels at the time of sale with clinchers. These shop provided wheels might not be hubbed the same as catalog spec.

BTW Campy cones are some of the better hardened ones of that era. Andy
