SRAM Derillure Upgrade

I currently run SRAM Rival shifters and both Rival front & rear derailleurs. SRAM Force Crank 50/34 with 12/28 on the rear. I am replacing the rear derailleur. Keeping it all 10 speed, I would like to replace with rear derailleur with a SRAM Force. Even thought I am keeping the 12/28 for now, I would like to use a SRAM Force WiFli in case I want to go to a 32t in the future. My question is...will I need to lengthen my chain to accommodate the larger cage? I know I will need to if I increase the cog size.

No, I use the standard chain measuring technique and it works fine for me.

Thank you. The older I get, having the option of a larger cog down the road is a comforting thought.

If the chain length is set correctly for a 28, then a 1 inch longer chain will be needed to wrap the big ring and 32T sprocket. The RD might not have enough wrap capacity. To test that, shift to the little/little combination and see if the chain hangs loose or rubs as the lower section of chain passes under the cage.

Thanks, the 12/28 is a new set with a new chain properly sized. I'll run it until it needs to be replaced. While it has been great, the Rival RD came with the bike in 2010 and has seen better days. I am going to replace it with a Force RD. I was just curious if the Force WiFli RD, as opposed to a short RD, would need a longer chain while running the 12/28.
