Hi everyone

need your help, does anyone know how to spot fake KMC X9 other than packaging? I was still checking thru onlines and forums but for X9 there are few materials out there.

Hoping for your help
thanks

What makes you think you have a fake chain? There are things worth counterfeiting but chains are cheap enough that it's really not worth the effort.

ISTR a very similar thread a few months ago.
An employee/rep of the company mentioned that the side plates will have different marks to identify the tooling/die used to stamp them out.
Defective #V's start showing up and they pull tool/die #V and install a new one.

Apparently there are fakes- See post18

I'd think KMC might know. Have you tried to contact them?

Bikes: depends what week it is..

I just bought a KMC x9 9spd chain from a very reputable seller on ebay (that is also a large brick'n'mortar store) that came with no packaging but it looks genuine. One thing that makes me think so is the outer plates have numerous different stamping patterns - some say KMC, some K9 and others just numbers like 2 or 50 (which may be a way that KMC keeps track of different batches). I doubt a fake factory would go to the trouble of making 3 different dies if they just wanted to make maximum $.
