Jis?
What is the proper screwdriver for these screws? I have ground a #1 phillips a little on the end but it doesn't seem to fit right. I have some smaller jeweler type screwdrivers that seem to fit better but flimsy handles that I can't get much downward force on. Are these screws JIS? If so, how do you specify so I can get one that is a good fit?? Thanks!

I did the same thing with a #1 Phillips and it does seem to fit fine on small JIS screws like the B-screws and limit screws on Shimano derailleurs. The screw you show seems to be bigger and perhaps a #2 Phillips would be a better starting point.

here.. they are well worth having around... Snap-on, Mac, and Cornwell also sell JIS screwdrivers.

#2 JIS or now CrossTip as those things are getting standardized. Pretty much I cannot think of a use for an actual Phillips screwdriver when a JIS or now CrossTip does the job better on Phillips screws from what I have observed using JIS.

FWIW: I thought I remembered getting my set from Amazon, so I checked. Amazon still carries them - and the price is somewhat better than this eBay source if you have Prime or your order has a subtotal of >$25. (I find the latter is always pretty easy to manage if necessary.

I've found that it's a good idea to check Amazon too if you find something in current production you want/need on eBay. For items in current production, Amazon is often a possible second source if the eBay vendor is out of stock. And sometimes Amazon is cheaper.

I'll second this recommendation for Hozan JIS screwdrivers.

i have a MAC #2 JIS.. "kind of a 1.5 Phillips!" as the Driver described it... Bought for use on Kubota Tractors and Mowers, at the time...I've been abusing it's superior design qualities for about 20 years now... it's about due for a new blade... still kicks butt on a Std. Phillips.

Understand. I was just (1) agreeing with your recommendation regarding Hozan JIS screwdrivers, and (2) pointing out that Amazon sometimes has a better deal than eBay on current production items.

It's a JIS 1 most probably. JIS 2 is often too big to nicely fit those particular screws (Shimano flat-bar shifter cover screws).
A set of decent JIS screwdrivers (Wera, Vessel or Hozan) should help (size 1 and 2 cover most bicycle-related work). They are all sold as "Phillips," but the listed brands make their Phillips work well with "Japanese" screws.
My detailed explanation on Phillips vs JIS (vs Pozidriv).
