Does stainless (931) need lacquer?

I have recently acquired a Genesis Volare 931 that has peeling lacquer in several places. This doesn't detract hugely from the appearance and there appears to be no negative impact on the bare metal (in fact it looks every bit a good)...

so, the question is, can I remove the lacquer and use the frame bare?

Thanks!
