Replacement "Aero" seatpost for Orbea Ordu triathlon bike

Hi folks,

Does anyone know where I can get a "cost-effective" (i.e., less than $60) replacement seatpost for this bike?
Is there any kind of *Non-OEM seatpost that I could use to replace the original as shown.
Yes! the original is still fine, but too big for me, and to preserve the value of the overall bike package I'd much rather leave it uncut and just find another seatpost to ride with.

Thanks!

Orbea Ordu triathlon bike

Carbon fiber seatpost

This dimension just shy of 60 mm

This dimension about 28 mm

I would doubt it, I know Darimo was making some aftermarket stuff for some aero posts but wouldn't be cheap. If you are going to sell the bike, sell the bike, if you are going to ride the bike then cut the seatpost and ride it. There aren't cheap seatposts for these bikes because they proprietary bikes designed for a very specific purpose. There are so many variables to these seatposts that if someone came out with one it would basically be obsolete very quickly and yes maybe useful to like one person 10 years down the road but that is not a good business model.

You could do research on the bike model and year and see if anyone did anything but it is pretty doubtful and very uncommon for someone to make aftermarket stuff for aero posts.

Unfortunately, I think these are the only two obvious choices.

$60 for an aero seat post….. Bhahahaha
The current production Cervelo R5 seat post is $250.

Pay the $60 while you can still buy one.

If you found one for $60, best buy it NOW. IMO, precisely the reason not to purchase a bike with proprietary components. At least, not if keeping it long term.

I don't think he's found one for $60; I think he's looking for one for less than $60.

I wouldn't worry about the resale value of that bike. The seatpost is likely too long for anyone else who would fit that bike.

If you want to preserve the value of a multi-thousand dollar bike, maybe $250 for the correct seatpost isn't too much of an investment--it could also be added to the package when ready to sell, thereby recouping a bit of value.

I concur with the above. If you’re going to sell it…don’t make the cut and get it sold. If you’re going to ride it…make the cut. If eventually you do decide to sell it…let the buyer worry about a replacement seat post.

Just a side note/question — Is it just me, or is the seat height compared to the handlebar/stem really extreme…even for a tri/TT bike? It looks like even with the lowest setting in this frame/seat combination that it’d still be extreme.

Have access to a 3D printer? Print an insert so you can use a standard seat post.

I was wondering along the same lines. But then just saw this —

This bike is not a collector's item and is unlikely to be in the future. I agree with the above posters, either cut the post to the proper size for you and ride the bike or sell it and buy something that fits. If you do try to sell it I think you will be very disappointed with what it will sell for. The depreciation on used bike is huge unless it has great historical interest. Your bike does not.

Ahhh.... OK! but that link you sent looks promising...

Yes. Makes no sense to me at all. Perhaps one standard, stock factory size for all frame sizes and this one was never cut. (I recently bought used).
Also the seatpost has offset to front rather than rear - I guess that's the design for Tri bikes, but I'm converting to standard road - and I've got a large upper body.

Brilliant - OR maybe I can mold something using a plastic epoxy set.

Yes. I just emailed the dude with my dimensions. His site states 28mm wide on cross-section - same as I have, but then he indicated 70 mm length of cross-section instead of 60 mm.

Thanks again HillRider. I'm hoping that ebay listing might work, but if not then I'll likely just cut the post.

No worries, happy to help. When I buy a bike I always go for something I want and would potentially want to keep for a long time. I try to avoid buying bikes just to buy them. If I am only the owner of them for a short time then I would rather pass or just sell it right away. If it isn't the bike for me I will pass unless it is some very odd situation where I only need it once or a couple times but that would be super duper beyond rare for me.

OK.... You got me thinking about custom creating or modifying. There's another Aero style one being sold on ebay.
It's UNDER-sized, but I'm thinking it can be wrapped with rubber tape or custom molded with carbon fiber wrap, to conform to the tube:

I hope I wasn't the one that got you thinking down that road. Just cut the seatpost or sell the bike. Keep it simple. Or if you need it more complicated then just buy the right seatpost
