Wiping tires might be a dying thing. Not as much need anymore. The tire compounds they've been using in the better tires for the last 8 or more years doesn't seem to let rock shards and other sharp things get embedded in the tread as much as in they use too. Many of us probably use to check our tire tread before each ride and remove any shards found. But it's been a long time since I've found any so that pre-ride tire inspection and wiping during the ride are mostly a thing of the past.

I was referring to the practice of wiping stuff off of your tires while riding - like after you roll through a patch of debris that might include sharp objects, before they cause a puncture.

I digress… to get back on topic… no, never used baby powder or talc. Never had an issue separating a tube from a tyre.
