Long vs short screws for the V-brakes

I'm putting things back after a total clean, and just now realized that there are 2 different length of the screws that hold the calipers (arms) of the V-brakes to the frame. It seems like any of them goes to any of the 4 places. Anyone has an idea how they are supposed to be used? Are the longs for the front or rear? Or are the longs for one side ad the shorts for the other side? Or just random???

Screw the longer into the bosses without the brakes and which best accommodate the length and you should have your answer.

They're normally all the same length, but in use the front brake arms pull away from the bosses while the rear arms push towards the bosses, so if there are longer bolts there's some sense in putting them in the front.
