I have about 15 different freewheels and for some of them I have been trying to identify the correct removal tools for for several years. Just Identify them, much less source and buy them.
some of them - like the 600 CE - have no obvious (to me) slots or splines into which I would even stick a tool if I knew which one i needed.

Use the QR skewer, loosely applied, to prevent the tool from "camming out" of the slots and damaging them. Once the freewheel breaks free, you can remove the skewer and unthread the freewheel. The Bicycle Research CT-1 and Shimano TL-FW10 are the best tools for those freewheels, because the have a stabilizing ring around the prongs that engage the slots on the freewheel body. Other two-prong tools lack that, and are more likely to damage the remover slots.

In case it helps, here is a CX-S off the bike and the needed tool.
With the 7sp at least, to get to the lock ring for a repack, you first need to spin off the last cogs. I use a pair of chain whips for that. Ring takes a pin wrench.
