Need advice on a TD-One Torque derailleur replacement.

Hello!

I want to fix my niece's bicycle with a maximum budget of $100. It's an old Next bicycle that has served her family well for over a decade so there's a lot of sentimental value over it. I need to replace the stock derailleur (TD-One Torque Drive System) with a basic one such as a Shimano Tourney TX-35 for better shifting because I think it is bent. I understand that I might need a derailleur hanger such as SunRace SP550 Rear Derailleur Bracket but I am not sure if it'll fit. My brother has already replaced the tyres and tubes so it's up to me to replace the derailleur. I think I can manage it but I need some advice on what derailleur should I purchase.

Any advice, except on getting rid of the bike, is welcome. Looking forward to reading all your responses. Thank you and have a pleasant day!

Bikes: Too many. Giant Trance X 29, Surly Midnight Special get the most time.

dedhed has good advise. Also don't overthink it. If you can get a standalone bracket and have a hanger alignment tool you might be able to get slightly better performance with it, a alignment tool, and a slightly better derailleur (Acera ish quality), but honestly at that kind of quality level anything reasonable, fresh, and not broken will be a meaningful improvement.

I have no idea what a hanger aligment tool is but, you know what, I'm all in on learning how to use it, I think it's going to be fun messing around. Thank you for your advice!

People who ask this kind of question aren't going to have or buy a $50-$100 DAG tool, nor do you need it for a 6-7 speed NEXT bike. An eyeball and an adjustable wrench are sufficient and by purchasing a claw mount RD it's not as big an issue. Of course a kid is going to drop the bike on the derailleur side in the first week and bend the new stuff.
