What I meant by the chain moving by 4mm, is that it moves sideways on the chainring (because the chainring moves/wobbles sideways). Sorry for the confusion.
But as someone pointed out, it is likely to be the BB or the crankshaft as both chainrings are moving side to side at the same time.
I've warrantied SRAM cranks that did this - the spider arms were essentially not straight (or the spindle pressfit hole was angled).

Nothing a mechanic can do about it.

The crossed cables is just incompetence.

Not cross chaining just loud clicking

Brand new Cannondale I bought 2 the same, one started clicking , blamed it on cross chaining , a
brought it too the dealer an warranty work with new chain crank (??)
but dealers said it made it worse . So they took it apart an said try this
picking it up tomorrow, dealer said if still making noise bring it back !! Dealer has been good to work with
$915.00 each
we are in our late 60’s so it not abuse !
