Shimano Claris FC-R2000 Crankset

Just a quick and hopefully, simple question for you all.
I have an opportunity to buy a Shimano Claris FC-R2000 Crankset 8 speed for a good price. I am wondering if I could use a 10 speed chain rings on this cranks.

Thanks is advance!

Why buy new chainrings? I would definitely try the existing before buying. Cranksets, in my experience, are very interchangeable across different groupsets. If a 10 speed chain can fall between the 8 speed chainrings then it won't work.

To your question, yes, you can use 10 speed chainrings if the bolt pattern and BCD fit.

The chainrings solo will probably cost more than a crankset already containing them. I wouldn't buy Claris unless I was desperate. Just get the proper chainwheel from Shimano in 10 speed.

I would think the chainring spacing would be too wide. The Shimano specs state compatible with HG 8/7/6 chain.

Probably more trouble than it is worth.

It is going onto my Bike Friday folder. Weight isn't a factor. What I like in this purchase is its crank length of 165. I heard good things said about having shorter cranks, for vertically challenged folks like me.
I think I should buy it and just keep the original 8 speed configuration. I just thought I might as well upgrade the gears while I have the urge to tinker.

Thanks everyone.
