Sturmey-Archer 3-speed IGH (Brompton BSR) clicking once per tire rotation.
On my commute today I noticed a new sound out of my Brompton, a click happening once per tire rotation. I did some investigation and found that the click seems to be coming from the hub, which is a Brompton BSR (made by Sturmey-Archer). The click happens in all three gears when I’m riding, no matter whether I’m pedaling or coasting.
Interestingly, the click does not occur if I lift the rear of the bike and just freely spin the wheel with no shear force on the axle. But I can make it occur when I’m not riding if I slowly roll the bike forward with my weight pressing down hard on the saddle. Doing this allowed me to hear the click at a much slower rotational speed than I could when riding, and made it clear that the apparent single click per rotation is actually kind of two clicks in immediate succession.
This is a newer Sturmey-Archer hub which is greased. It has no oil port. Probably has around 300 miles on it, perhaps less.
Any ideas?

My first suspicion is that it's in the wheel, not the hub. Possibly a slack spoke, or a stress crack in the rim.

That usually means I have a wire stuck in my tire hitting the fender.

hi there, I’ve got exactly the same issue on my Brompton. Hub has almost exactly the same mileage on. Did you get a resolution? Am going to have a look at adjusting the cable this weekend. Thanks.
