Many if not most of us here have decades of reflexively thinking in terms of rim brake wheels for bikes, certainly in the absence of data specifying otherwise. Analogously, if you and I read a thread where the OP asked for advice regarding frequent flats, only to find after several rounds of backing and forthing (with mentions of tubeless versus tubed tires, etc.) that the bike had sewup tires, we'd likely be surprised. It happens.
I think new subscribers are only allowed 5 posts the 1st day. If so, how many were wasted for nothing?

Maybe the wheel was laced 4 cross originally?

While the wheel is hard to see with the background, it appears to be *at least* 3X, and based on the tangency of the spokes, I think 4X. (If that was the pic of the "old" wheel, or the matching other wheel.)
Some work to redo, but in the end, will be a fine wheel. You just don't see 4X as much these days.
