Snap ring
Not feeling very smart…
Finally, after more than a few attempts to center my Shimano GRX400 front caliper, I was successful getting it centered. In my case the bottom bolt had that damn snap ring around the cap screw……I ignored it both backing the bolt out and then when adjusting tight…..
Made it really difficult to position without the caliper wandering…..but finally got proper positioning and torque…
Are these necessary or are they an answer to the question only a lawyer would ask…..?
I dont think I broke it (after many trials) but if I have to make another adjustment, should I replace it? And do you just pry it off?
Grrrrrrrr…….

here's how i center disc brake calipers... i adjust the cable to position the arm on the caliper at about 1/3 travel.. i then set the cable for a normal lever travel... THEN, i dial in two more clicks of pad adjustment... i then Center the Caliper as we all know by loosening the two mount screws and clamping down on the lever with a moderate amount of force, tighten the screws, and then dial Out the pad adjustment two clicks..
spin wheel and listen for any rubbing.
no rubbing? Bam, Done.
Note: Some calipers have a SET SCREW on the pad adjuster.. Make sure you loosen that set screw, or you might Ruin the Caliper. if there IS a set screw, the adjuster may not Have Clicks.. assume a "click" to be about 1/4 turn...
and remember to re-tighten that set screw when done fiddling around
