Does anyone know if OP got his answer? I'm not sure I would do this, but you could, and then undo it later. Most vintage bikes probably had their rear triangles brutally moved around at the factory.

Sorry, you are correct that the OP wanted to go 130 to 126, not the other way.

Yes, you can can set a frame narrower. If anything, it is the safer direction since it puts no strain on the brake bridge.
