HELP in figuring out a crank set /BB
I have an older Raleigh frame (urban assault) and I am trying to bring it back to life.
Now the issue I am having is that is the crank set.
I know it is 68 English bb (proudly a 110) – now my major? is that I have a road crank set that has a 42 / 52 chain ring and no matter what spindle size I try to use - the chain ring hits the frame.
So how can I figure out what kind of crank set I need?
Also if this was a cross bred frame would that make a difference (maybe I need a mtb crank set instead)?
Thank you for any help,
John

Depends on the hybrid, of course that word can mean any mix of parts... but I would not be surprised if a hybrid were equipped with a triple mtb-style (110 BCD) crank, since that's quite a practical basis for anything up to professional road racing. So maybe your problem is that you're trying to install a 130mm BCD (or bigger?) road crankset on your bike? That definitely seems like it might interfere with your frame, if it was designed for a 110 BCD crankset. It seems to me that a few minutes with the frame and a knowledgeable LBS should help clarify this, hopefully at little to no cost (though I'm sure they would be happier to help if you also bought the appropriate crankset from them, assuming you currently have the wrong size).
