OK. I'll ask. What is wrong with the rear?

I don't know if these are made for a Ranger P/U but there are front mounted hitches available for some trucks and SUVs. They are called "spotting hitches" and are used to maneuver trailers, etc. into tight places so you can see what you are doing. If there is one available for your Ranger, you could mount a regular hitch rack on it.

www.etrailer.com has DrawTite front mount 2" hitch for your truck. Then just get a hitch mount rack and you are set.

In many juristictions it's not legal to obstruct the driver's view, if that's the case with your proposed installation. I once had a front mounted (small) motorcycle on a rack and got stopped and advised to remove it immediatly. It could be a problem, or not... OHB

I put a Hidden Hitch 2" receiver on the front of my F150. It's bolt-on, no drilling. About $100.00. I ordered it from JC Whitney. I use it to attach a bar that holds an eye-bolt above the hood for attachment of ropes to the bows of two canoes.

There's another option. You can get a receiver extension for the rear of your truck that moves the tow-ball back something like a foot and a half or more and includes a bike rack that holds the bikes between the rear of the vehicle and the front of the trailer. My son uses one to tow a huge pop-up camper when he carries several bikes. I think you'll find that at J C Whitney too.
