Can anyone tell me if the extra click on my shimano 7 speed barcons can be used with a 8 speed setup. I know that the 7 speed thumb shifters also had this so called "ghost" shift.

I believe the internals for both the thumb shifters and barcons are essentially the same. I would bet you can use the phantom click for 8-speed just the same way.
