Stripped Campagnolo Record Bottom Bracket
I bought a used bike (1995 Merckx MX Leader). I tried removing the bottom bracket. It was so tight that it broke my Park bottom bracket tool and the ridges where the tool fits into got stripped. I need help or suggestions on how to remove this stripped bottom bracket. It is a 1990s Campagnolo Record Italian Thread. I definitely know which way it turns, so don't tell me I might have turned the wrong way. All Italian Threads are counter clockwise to remove...

The threading is not stripped. But the inner part where you insert the bottom bracket tool is stripped. When I inserted the bottom bracket tool, and using a lot of force to unscrew the bottom bracket, it grinded out the teeth of the inner part of bottom bracket...And yes, obviously the bottom bracket is so tight due to either corrosion, or the previous owner not greasing the bb properly and maybe even used some sort of chemical like loctite to make it so tight...Since you suggest possibly cutting out the bottom bracket, what type of cutting tool do you suggest? Don't forget the spindle is still there so, I would have to work around it in order to start cutting the bottom bracket...

You could try and loosen it up with heat, this has worked for me in the past with stubborn pedals. Pour boiling water over the affected parts and try again if you can get any grip on the part - big locking pliers on some part of the BB that protrudes from the frame?
Good luck,
Ed
Good luck,

Sounds like it is time to visit your local quality independent bike shop. I am assuming that the left side lockring is off and you cannot remove the bb cups at all. Try soaking the oustide with a rust remover first. There are Park and Var tools made to remove very stubborn bb cups. The average Park bb tool will not do it in this case. If the left side bb cup has a series of 6 or so holes in it, a pin spanner should be able to do it. If it has narrow flats toward the spindle, that gets more problematic. Pay the bike shop to get this done.
