question about wireless computers

how come many of the pro bikes have the wireless transmitters on the front of the fork? it seems intuitive to me to mount the transmitter on the rear of the fork and that's how i have mine.
so what's the deal here?

The front of the fork would be a more direct line of sight to where the head unit is mounted on the bar. If it were behind the fork, the handlebar could be in the way. Also, when mounted behind the fork, the sending unit could conceivably be pushed into the spokes and ripped off. Just a thought.

I always mount the pickup so that it leads the spokes(The front of the fork, bottom of the stay for cadence), just so that if it were knocked into them it would just glance away rather than getting caught.

I think you mean, on top of the stay for cadence?

I would love to put my Polar CS200 transmitter on the rear wheel, but it doesn't have the range. I suspect they limit xmitter power as much as possible to preserve battery life and reduce interference.

It goes on the front of the fork in case the sensor gets pushed into the wheel... it just gets knocked back out away from the wheel if this happens, instead of jamming in between the fork/wheel and possibly causing a crash or destroying a wheel.
