So I was sold a Shimano RD with a missing part (on ebay) & the seller will not refund - nice !!!

Anyway the missing part is the small thing that screws into the back of the RD that recieves the outer cable.

I hv found some Shimano parts on the internet and the thing that looks like it could be it is called the 'cable tension adjuster' - does anyone know if this is the part I need ?

If I am not making sense I could take a photo ?

Yes, the "cable tension adjuster" sounds like the right part! It's nothing but a hollow screw with a recess in the head that fits the diameter of the cable housing. The inner wire of the cable then goes through the hollow center of the screw, and by turning the head of the screw you can adjust the tension on the cable.

I must have a few dozen of these lying around in my parts box. I'm not sure if the threading is standard, but I could easily drop a couple in an envelope for ya.

I'd be sure to leave negative feedback for this selling if he advertised it as a complete working derailer.

Sounds good! You may well be able to stop in at a local bike shop with the derailer and ask them to fish one out of their "random parts bin" (every good shop has a few of these). Probably take 5 minutes and cost you 50 cents... er, pence

I have seen a derailleur without the threaded hole for the adjuster... are you sure one is used on the specific derailleur? The one I remember was a fd.

Also, for a used component, negative feedback for a missing $0.25 part seems a bit harsh. I would suggest it is more worthy of a neutral, unless the auction wording or photo clearly showed the piece.
