STI Barrel adjuster won't stay put
I recently got a custom steel frame and it came with the brass STI adjusting barrel nuts on the
headtube. My problem is when I need to take up the cable slack by backing out the barrel nut, as soon as I am back on the small chainring, the barrel nut runs back against the stop. Do I need to change to the Shimano type barrel nut or is there something I can do with the brass ones. The brass does look nice, but I wish it would stay put when I adjust it. Thanks for any help in cluing me in.

Most barrel adjusters have a small coil spring over the threaded section to keep them under tension and prevent what you are experiencing. Try to find a pair of these springs from old brake or derailleur cable adjusters.
