Extending steerer ttube a bit?

Hey, my freinds was tryign to sell me a sid race, and i put the sid on an 18in trek 4300. The problem was the steerer tube reached like 1/4 of the way into the stem. I know this si dangerous and would not work. My question is if there is a way to extend the steerer tube a bit (maybe like shimmingor something) ? Any ideas?

It would be a pain in the arse to try and extend it. On some forks you can remove the tube and put a new one in. I would say contact RockShox and see if it is possible to put a new tub on your fork.
