I recently bought a new front wheel, when I went to put it on I realized the hub is thinner then the fork spread. The hub comes out to about 9cm and my fork spread is 11cm, I was thinking of getting some thin nuts I could slip on the axle to act as spacers. Should I worry about bending my fork blades inward?

Who makes the bike what model of the bike and what year is it what are you replacing the stock parts with you shouldnt have this type of problem

It's an old Miyata steel lugged frame.

If the distance between the fork ends does not equal 10cm +/- 2-3mm your fork is bent. The front hub over locknut spacing should equal 10cm +/- 1mm, if not, something is not right with the hub.
