quick rear derailleur question

Hey Everybody-

I just picked up a Shimano Deore rear derailleur. It says in the specs that it is a 9-speed derailleur. Will it be backwards compatible with my 8 speed cassette? Thanks again!

It'll work fine! The spacing between an 8-speed and a 9-speed cassette/cog are the same. The difference is the distance of the cable pull associated with each click at the shifter!
