Yea you would think that's the case, which is why we tried in the shop. It's just not that high.

I would bet that when installed some small part of the tube was caught between the tire and the rim. This is the most common cause of mystery blowouts, and the fact that it was done in a bike shop and was repeated does not surprise me.
