Replacement Pads For Avid Shorty 6

I'm tired of sanding my pads and they have gotten too thin. On the
hills here I have lots of stops from ~40 mph and the 'Rim Wrangler 2'
pads get glazed. (I guess that I'll have to keep sanding no matter
what.) Since I was so pleased replacing my Shimano pads with Kool
Stop black on my road bike I got carried away and got Kool Stop
Tectronic refills. The Avid 'Rim Wrangler 2s' really weren't bad but
the hills here are tough. Well, I thought that the Shorty 6 pad holder
had the same dimensions as any V-Brake pad holder. These Tectonic
pads are too wide. I tried some silicone spray (which did create some
anxiety for a brake part) but I still couldn't insert the pads into the
pad holder. I pushed hard but didn't want to force it.

Is there something I don't get involved in assembling the pieces??
I guess that my options are Avid pad replacements or Kool Stop pad
holder and pad assembly. Any other ideas, suggestions??

the plain kool stop "v-brake insert" pad works fine with my shorty 6s. The Tectronics many require a special holder.

^^ as above.

although if your doing that much stopping from high speed - you should seriously look towards disc brakes - although i am assuming you have a mtb there... you might have a road bike afterall...

Close, it is a 'cross bike. When the world reopens (I'm in the Colorado front range
and the world has stopped for the weather) I think I'll buy the Kool Stops (tec..)
in their holder.

thanx,,,,

I don't think that they would have different widths, but I don't
think 'they' care much about what I think!

I wonder if that means that regular v-brake inserts would be too
loose in a Tectonic holder??

thanx,,,

You should have bought the entire pad/holder system.

So go get the Tectronic holders and keep the silicone spray AWAY from your brakes!

You already know how good Kool-Stops are. I wouldn't bother buying more Avid pads!

does anyone use Jagwire or Axtec pads with there shorty 6 brakes? I like the kool stops but hate the flared tip on the pads.. I prefer a straighter pad..
