Installing a new derailer (sp?)

I just bought a new derailer for my bike and I cannot figure out how where the chain should go between the two sprokets.

Can anyone give a good description or even a link to directions or a link with directions and a picture.

Any help would be greatly helpful.

Thanks a lot! I just needed to see a picture to get me going. I'll go for a test ride and see if my handy work holds up.

I had no idea there could be so much information about fixing bikes!

Well, first test ride shows success on mounting the derailer and chain!

But I forgot to attach the cable to change the gears. Went at it a bit too aggressively and thought I should remove some extra lenth. I took too much off, so I'll have to wait for another day to get a new cable. Learning really comes from errors!

I can't say what the bike type is. I bought it at a garage sale last year for $60. It has been repainted so I cannot see the make. I must say that the new derailer gives it a nice smooth feel, so maybe I should think about replacing some more parts.

Thanks again. I'm a step closer to being on my way.
