I tried - but only because the brifter got so dirty and worn inside it stopped shifting altogether, so I had nothing to lose by taking it apart. I could get it apart, but not back together. Some of the springs are all but impossible to relocate in the assembly using your fingers. I firmly believe that the brifters cannot be assembled by hand.

That will sometimes restore functioning to a sticky or skipping shifter. As to detailed disassembly/reassembly, it's never been reported as successful.

They either work or are replaced. You want to rebuild brifters, you have to go with Campy Ergos.

I've had good luck hosing out the insides with liberal amounts of WD40.
