Stem issues
I wanted to lower my stem. I removed the stem cap. I loosened it with an allen wrench. When it cam out about .5 of a centimeter, I tapped it lightly with a wooden mallet. I then lowered the stem. Now, the bolt won't tighten. It spins but won't tighten. Please help, I need to leave soon!

I'll give you one idea... Don't know how much you loosened it but hear goes... Lift up on the bolt so that the tightening mechanism below 'catches' then at the same time turn the bolt and it should start going down. This will indicate that you are actually tightening the bolt and you should be able to then continue to tighten it.. go for it. peace

Assume you have a conventional quill stem. If the stem bolt spins freely with no resistance, I suspec that you've unscrewed the stem bolt from the wedge/cone thing at the bottom of the stem. Pull the whole thing out and check. If this is the case, you may have to turn the bike upside down and shake it out, or try and catch the wedge with the bolt alone (no stem in place)

Pull the stem right out, turn the bike upside down so the wedge falls out. Get the bolt stared in the threads of the wedge, then reinsert the stem at the correct height. Finally tighten the bolt.
