Regina Freewheel Modification

I have also posted this in C&V.

Against the advice of my LBS, I want to start modifing freewheels with different cogs. I can't find the exact stock set-up so I am willing to buy a few and mix & match to my ideal set up. I have a couple of questions, please refer to the picture below as a reference.

Can I remove the type 7 cog from the type 6 cog without removing the inner lock ring? From the picture it looks like a couple of chain whips would do the job. If that is the case, clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Although the picture doesn't show it, the two type 3 cogs are separate, it is not one u-shaped double cog (at least I don't think it is). Again, can I remove that without disassembling the whole freewheel? If yes, chainwhips again and clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Actually, it looks like I can remove all of the cogs without ever dealing with the inner bearings and pawls. Please educate me before I ruin too many freewheels.

number seven is the "lockring". two chainwhips should do the job. right hand thread, though as you may know the "3 3" cogs are lht and must be removed from the rear of the fw. you shouldn't have to disassemble the block to remove the cogs, though they may be on there hella tight.

There are no lockrings on the older Regina freewheels. EVERY cog is indicidually threaded on to either the body or the next bigger cog. On a normal body the last two (biggest two) thread from the inside. while on a "scalare" or close ration body only the last one cog threads from the inside.

If you get a NOS freewheel thy are easy to unthread- I took apart 4 very easlit. If yours is 20-30 years old and used a lot - good luck - those things get TIGHT with use.

The 4, 5 and 6 speed Regina Extras and Oros all used the same body and the largest three cogs were always 3-3-2 (in Regina's numbering scheme) the last 1, 2 or 3 cogs varied as the the "number". Thewre's a site with a regina catalog online - looks you have one page from your attachment. Scalare bodies were the same for 5 and 6 speeds as well. in this case the smallest 2 or three cogs differred. If you have q 12-whatever scalare then it had to be a 6 speed. if you had a 13-whatever scalare it was a five speed.

Note it is possible to use a 12T on a non-scalare (normal) body. you need the 12T and its soecial mating 13T then you screw this on to a 14 or 15T "number 6" cog which goes on the body, then your 2-3-3 to complete the six speed setup. I'm thinking of doing myself.
