New chain rings
I just did a switch from a mountian bike to a road bike and would like to switch the chain rings on my new bike to get closer to the gearing I had on my mountain bike. Right now the road bike has a TruVatiV crank set with 52/42/30 and I want to switch it over to 48/36/20. If I can find the chain rings with the right bolt spacing can this be done? I don't see this combo list as a standard set of chain rings, usally I see a 26 NOT 20 for the smallest gear. Also what else will I need to change? The rear derailleur is a shimano tiagra.
Thanks,
zim

Depending on your particular components this may or may not be feasible. Your front derailleur is designed to run with your current road chainrings. It may not work well with mountain style chainrings.
Your road crankset probably has a bolt center diameter of 130 mm. The smallest middle chainring in that BCD is a 38. You could possibly change the big ring to a 49 or 50 and the middle ring to a 39 or 38.
And you could possibly go to a bigger cassette in the rear. To run a cassette cog bigger than a 30 you will need to replace the rear derailleur with a mountain type.
