chainring skip

Would it be possible to reshape chainring teeth with a file to prevent skipping.
Obviously, the best thing would be to just replace the chainring, but I wonder if anyone
has ever tried this?

If your chainring is skipping, you might have bigger problems. I'd go with new chainring and chain (and probably cassette). Sounds like things are worn out.

I don't know if reshaping will help. Reshaping can provide the correct profile so it will look right, but probably won't restore the pitch of the teeth. The pitch of the teeth must match the pitch of the chain. A "worn" chainring often as material removed and the only way to restore would be to add material to the chainring.
