What size chain?
I am converting a 1971 Schwinn Varsity into a singlespeed.
I am using a 42T Wald Chainring up front on the one-piece cranks, and a 17T ACS Freewheel on the back.
Wald says the chainring is 1/2" x 1/8".
The freewheel is 1/2" x 3/32".
I bought a Nashbar 6/7 speed chain and it fits on the freewheel but not the chainring. Should I have bought a 1/8" singlespeed chain? Will that work with both the chainring and the freewheel? Or are they incompatible?
Thanks.

You have to have a 1/8" chain, and the extra width will not be a problem on the freewheel.
