new rim with dynohub WIERD BRAKING!!!

Good morning ,

last night I installed my new velocity dydad rim with a Schmidt Hub. the wheel is new out of box and is dead on true.

Im running shimano Br550 Cantis with Koolstop salmon pads. I have the brakes set up with a fork crown cable stop.

on my old Dyad front wheel I was able to get rid of Fork chatter But was always had "Squeal Like pig"

Now A new wierd problem when I brake in front (with the new Dyno hub wheel) the wheel thumps in the same spot all the time (thought my head set was loose Its not) , not like the typical canti chatter thats multable vibrations .

The brakes grab harder on one section of the rim, when I brake its Thump thump thump.

I straddled the Top tube of bike and walked the bike with a fixed presure on the lever, the Pads were scraping the rim uniformly and smooth but when that one spot came up the pads grabbed harder.

I didnt feel a bump like a rim blip, the pads just grabbed harder on that one spot almost like if slid from a piece of glass onto sandpaper , still flat but a different surface .

suggestions please Ive never seen this one before.

many thanks

"John"

grab some emery cloth and see if a couple swipes over that area makes it worse or better. Sounds like when the manufacturer milled in the braking surface they may not have done such a clean job on the weld point.

If the emery cloth makes it worse then give the rest of the rim the treatment to smooth out the braking. IF it makes the braking better. Then you're golden.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah that sounds About right , it was dark last night when I was playing around with the wheel and couldnt see the seam. Ill try the emery trick tonight.

if it doesnt get better with the emery Ill send the wheel back for a new rim Its brand spanking new No miles on it yet. no problem with the builder. bad rims happen!
