Rear derailer compatibility - Shimano
Hi, I got an older Bianchi road bike from a garage sale for my daughter. It came with a 6-speed transmission with down tube shifters. The rear wheel was cracked in multiple places and I replaced it with a 9-speed wheel I had as a spare. So, now my daughter uses the down tube shifter in friction mode and the original Shimano 600 rear derailer works like a charm. I want to get 9-speed bar end shifters to get it indexed. Much easier for a girl learning to ride a road bike. Are you aware of any compatibility issue between Shimano 600 read derailers and modern 9-speed shifters? Are older derailers compatible with the modern ones in terms of cable pull/travel?

If it is a SIS rear derailer, it is compatible with any Shimano 9-speed shifter. Pre-SIS stuff may not be compatible.
