New Tire flat spots

Hi, first post to the forum. I just got a new Fuji Roubaix (my first road bike). The first ride around the block I noticed a thumping sound coming from the wheels. I picked up the wheel and spun by hand and noticed a dip at one spot on the tire. I checked the rear and it had the same thing. I called the shop where I bought it and they asked if they were Continentals and I said yes and they said to bring it in and they'll fix it. When I got there they looked it over and said it's common and it will work itself out. We checked some other bikes on the racks and they all the same flat spots. Will this work itself out or should any other action be taken?

Thanks
Tim

The tires just aren't seated on the rim properly. They should pop into place pretty quickly. You can also over-inflated them to force the bead to seat on the rim. If I recall that bike has Ultra Sport tires rater to 120psi? Pump them to 150 or so and then let the air out after the tire pops into place.

The other option is to completely deflate the tire and then re-inflate it.

What rims does that bike have? Are they ALEX rims?

The guy at the shop did deflate and re-inflate but it did not fix. I'll get right back to you on the rim type.

Don't bother with the over-inflation. Soapy -water the bead and inflate.

Hi, I took the bike back again and they swapped out 2 sets of tires and tubes and it still did not solve the problem. Finnaly they swapped the rims and with Forte Titans and all was fine. This took 2 hours but they made it right. Thanks for the input.

for the record, deflating the tire, spraying it with soapy water and reinflating it would have solved it. i used to see it all the time with bontrager steel bead tires at the shop where i worked.
